How to read your result
- The five bands run from very low to very high risk, based on how many standard deviations you are from average.
- Measure your waist the same way each time: bare skin, relaxed, at the level of your belly button.
- Population studies link a higher ABSI to higher long-term mortality risk. That does not predict your own outcome.

Questions
What is ABSI?
A Body Shape Index uses your waist circumference, height and weight. It was designed to flag a waist that is large for your size, which BMI cannot see.
How is it different from BMI?
BMI ignores where weight sits. ABSI adds waist size, and in population studies it predicted mortality risk independently of BMI.
What does the z-score mean?
It compares your ABSI with US adults of the same age and sex. Zero is average, and higher numbers mean a larger waist for your height and weight.
Is a high result a diagnosis?
No. It is a statistical risk marker for groups of people. Talk to your doctor about waist size, blood pressure and blood sugar.
