Can a HighProtein Diet Really Supercharge Your Weight Loss?

High-protein diets may lead to short-term weight loss. This is likely due to reduced calorie intake and fullness from cutting carbs. Long-term effects are unclear, and potential downsides exist. High protein can strain kidneys and lack essential nutrients if not planned carefully.

A study investigated the effects of a low-carb diet on weight loss and heart health. After 12 weeks, participants lost significant weight and showed improved blood vessel flexibility (FMD). This led to decreased inflammation markers and increased adiponectin, a hormone linked to better insulin sensitivity.

This study examined the impact of high-protein diets on brain health. Overweight and obese individuals followed either a moderate or low-carbohydrate high-protein diet for 16 weeks. The moderate carbohydrate group showed a significant decrease in brain glucose uptake. No changes were observed in the low-carbohydrate group. More research is needed to understand long-term effects on cognition.

High-protein and low-carb diets are popular for weight loss. High-protein diets focus on lean meats, fish, eggs, and dairy. Low-carb diets severely limit carbohydrates like bread, pasta, and sweets. Both can lead to weight loss, but through different mechanisms.
